Teaching Experience
Associate Faculty • Communication Studies • Butte College (2011 – Present)
Public Speaking (CMST 2)
Duties included giving lectures, holding workshops, grading speeches and written assignments, and administering exams. In this course I used a new speech capture technique I created to distribute recoded student speeches digitally over YouTube. This practice has been very successful, and acts as a model for sustainable teaching practices.
Group Discussion (CMST 4)
Duties included giving lectures, facilitating student-centered learning activities, grading group presentations and written assignments, and administering exams. In Fall of 2011 I piloted the Adams and Galanes (2011) textbook to better align Butte’s small group course with that of Chico State.
Associate Faculty • Communication Arts and Sciences • California State University, Chico (2011 – Present)
Persuasion (CMST 354)
Duties included giving lectures, holding workshops, creating written assignments, grading, and administering exams. In this course I took a strong social-scientific approach to studying persuasive theory. Students had the opportunity to teach sections of the assigned readings and lead their peers in student-centered learning experiences I created for them.
Communication Research Methods (CMST 332)
Duties included the creation of course assignments, creating exams/quizzes, and the preparation and delivery of lectures on communication research methodology. This was a course that had suffered from instructional problems in previous semesters. I worked with Chico State faculty to redesign the course to be more rigorous and inline with department expectations. I have taught this course multiple times.
